J.C. Senner

Chris
started on guitar in the late ‘60’s (yes – really!! ..and he remembers
them too..) but quickly became interested in the steel guitar and actually built
his first one - along with his amplifiers and other equipment. Lots of free love
back then, but money was tight. He
ended up leaving the guitar at home and played steel guitar with a local country
band called Summer Wine in the seventies. Chris
stayed with this band for years as it was like a family and great fun, just like
a good band should be, but they finally broke up when lead singer Norma Kelly
moved to Australia to become the first lady of country music there.
She still keeps in touch. He moved on to play with Trevor Kelly for years
under various band names, and also played London gigs for the Texas Tourist
Board with Texan Fiddle player James McAlister (who played on the soap series,
“Dallas”). A two year stint with country band, Nightshift, followed,
along with the regular steel slot with Jennie Laine and Tennessee Rain for a number of years. Moved on again,
playing steel and guitar with the same fiddle player, with an MOR outfit called
Roseanna and the Sunshine band.
He
then met up with the singer-songwriter-bandleader and general hell-raiser, Roger
Humphries, and has been playing with Roger’s band, Bite The Bullet, for the
last fifteen years at various biker and country festivals including the
Americana festival in Newark, (where he first met HD and Gareth, when Roger had
them guest during his set there). He
featured on a couple of CD's with BTB, playing a lot of Roger’s excellent
self-penned material.
Recently,
he was playing with country band, Short Circuit, for a few years – but
the band moved on to do more MOR and rock, which called for less steel from him,
and more guitar, including some guitar synth – WAY too techno!!
At
this point, Chris got the call to join Too Country, which totally meets his need
for the authentic Honky-tonk and Swing-based country music, which he loves.
